Great success with the public and business for the brands exhibited at the Genoa Boat Show, which closed with 120 thousand attendees and over a thousand brands on display. A record 63rd edition, with attendance 13.9 percent higher than in 2022.
Also, for brands, respectable numbers, + 4.5% compared to last year, with boats from two to 40 meters in length accommodated in an increased number of berths thanks to the opening of the new canals.
Genoa Boat Show, record numbers
184 new products were showcased during the event, with over three thousand sea trials conducted. The event featured 100 activities, including conferences and workshops, attracting over a thousand accredited journalists. About two thousand articles were published during the event alone, highlighting the significant media attention the event garnered. Saverio Cecchi, president of Confindustria Nautica, and I, Saloni Nautici, are beaming.
“These,” he said, “are the numbers of a show that continues to outdo itself year after year, thanks to a team that has worked strenuously for this result. I am proud to be the helmsman of this crew.” Meanwhile, work is underway, with a public-private partnership, to ensure that the new Levante Waterfront, designed by Renzo Piano, becomes the world’s first exhibition district for yachting.
The success of the last Boat Show is framed in a global scenario that sees boating continue to grow. Data on the worldwide market for newly built boats in 2022 touched 35 billion euros, with a growth rate of 20 percent more than in 2021. Motorboats are doing very well (nearly 90 percent), with North America and Europe accounting for about 70 percent. The challenge for the marine industry is environmental sustainability. Demand for hybrid, electric, and biofuel propulsion systems is increasing.
Beware, however. A record number of superyachts are sailing in the Mediterranean. In July 2023, more than 1,500 yachts over 24 meters cruised the area. That corresponds to the highest traffic volume in the last five years. In 2022, Italy became the leading country in global orders, with nearly 350 projects underway. The year saw the delivery of about 170 superyachts measuring over 30 meters, continuing the growth trend observed in recent years.
