At the World Superyacht Awards 2022, My Masquenada 51m won the Best Refitted Yachts Award. The jury, during the London event, among the most prestigious in the sector, awarded the work of the shipowner Pier Luigi Loro Piana in the Refitted Yachts category. A date of May 21, 2022, to be engraved in the brand’s prestigious history.
The owner, a very experienced sailor and a regatta enthusiast having to plan a cruise worldwide opted for an explorer-type motor boat to combine comfort and excellent performance.
My Masquenada, a yacht for 12 people
This motor yacht is capable of accommodating 10-12 guests. The dimensions have been studied down to the smallest detail. If he had been more prominent, he would not have been able to access the small bays. The intervention that required the most effort and dedication was the total overhaul of the main deck aft to create an open beach club.
The goal was to make it easy to access both from the sea and the main hall and create the optimal conditions to accommodate tenders and sea toys easily.
Misa Poggi’s interior design used quilted leather in dark and light wood. They brushed bronze accents, creating a warm and welcoming environment. Bamboo and fabrics add a touch of exoticism. Three cabins are located on the lower deck and two on the main deck, where the owner’s cabin is also there.
Roaring engines
New propellers and redesigned lines at the stern. Thanks to the pair of original Caterpillar 3508 engines, equipped with a new exhaust system, they give the yacht a maximum speed of 1.5 knots. In addition, three new generation Kohler generators are housed in soundproof boxes and mounted on anti-vibration mounts with structural reinforcements to minimize noise and vibrations.
So much beauty, and there is space for a helicopter
With the stern sides cut, the flush deck has been adapted to accommodate a helicopter. The aft area has also been wholly revisited and transformed into a “pieds dans l’eau” bathing platform. When the tenders and sea toys are at sea, a large area for organizing parties can be created on the aft deck.
Consider that that space is designed to accommodate two or more tenders, including an Iguana amphibious vehicle. In addition, the boarding ladders on the sides can be adjusted in height depending on whether the Maxi Dolphin-Nauta day cruiser or one of the tenders is moored.
Finally, the old deck crane was replaced by a custom-made crane with 7.5 tons. The characteristic is that it can be folded to disappear into the special compartment below the deck.
Elongated bridges to get a lot more space
Both the main and upper decks have been lengthened by 1.5 meters towards the stern, obtaining, among other things, more shade on the lower one. A gym can easily find its seat on the bridge deck and, in the same space, two sailing dinghies can be stored in a secure locker that doubles as a sundeck. There is the dining and relaxation area on the upper deck aft. The sun deck is an exclusive observation point, having a kitchen with a barbecue.
